SAMANTHA'S WISDOM Ridden by Meredith Hently
Breeder's Cup Juvenile Fillies* Workout // December Workout

The breeders cup was finally here and Samantha's Wisdom was entered into the race. This event was a great opportunity although Meredith believed the filly should have ran in more races she would have the chance in her three year old season to boost up her records a bit. Meredith was already out into the stables with the bay filly tied to a pole. She was cleaning out her hooves along with brushing her to get ready for the workout. The filly was well built but with attitude. She has the love for running and so Meredith was hasty to put the saddle on her back and to get started.
After she was done Meredith grabbed the reins removing them from the pole and started out onto the dirt track for the distance runners. Meredith had climbed onto her back and she bobbed her head to feel the weight onto her back. Sam had walked forward onto the track and Meredith held her tight not wanting her to take full speed just yet. "Easy Sam, I know you want to go but, you know we need to work your legs first." Mere said petting her top shoulder then gently patting her. Putting the reins in position in her hands she then urged the bay filly forward to a simple trot through the home stretch. Sam moved quite fairly her head raised and her chin close to her chest slightly biting the bit hard in her mouth.
This would be the second race Samantha would be running because she entering late in her career this would boost her records a bit maybe not either way it was an achievement that Sam would have to live with. She would be a 3 year old next year and would be running in more highly efficient races. After the first turn Meredith then lowered her frame and clicked her tongue and gave a gentle tiny kick to the filly's side where her feet were aligned in the saddle and Samantha's Wisdom finally broke away like there was a gate in sight.
Her stride became longer and farther apart the dirt was being kicked behind her as she ran and it felt like the ground was shaking beneath her hooves. Meredith smiled enjoying the speed on this filly feeling the wind hit her face from right behind the neck of her. She was bright on the track and it was early in the day but not too cold and not too hot. The filly was the only one out this morning since the others running in the breeders cup at Bowen Acres already had their workouts earlier.
The filly came to the last turn as she went faster as if she was actually racing another opponent. The filly was highly strung and she was wanting this win. Sam had won the New York Maiden for her first race and won which was a break. Now it was the breeders cup and then next years races. She then came to the home stretch and was brought back to a slow trot to slow her nerves and heartbeat. Today was a good workout both jockey and filly were doing great with no problems.
She stopped Sam and Meredith reached down and wrapped her arms around the filly to give her a hug. "No matter the result's Sam there will always be next year." Meredith said then slid off her back and walked to face the bay filly. She rubbed her nose as a praise for her run and headed back to the stables so the filly could rest and wait to run for the Breeders Cup Juvenile Fillies*. She took off the saddle and brushed her again before placing her in her stall. Meredith had never been to the Breeders Cup before so this was quite an effort. Meredith walked out of the barn and headed home til the race.
