GAMBLE ON PEACE Ridden by Chris Stevens
January Workout

[/size]Well this was a surprise, Gamble on Peace was racing in week one. He came in third at the Breeders Cup Sprint and he was ready for more. He took a nice long rest a couple of months ago and Chris thought Gambler was ready for the first week of January. The chestnut stallion was now a 4 year old and he was a great sprinter. Now as a grade 3 he would be entering into more competitive races and would have a shot at more experienced levels.
He already had the stallion saddled up and ready to go he was just checking his knees and hooves in case he felt some heat on them from the Breeders Cup and he was simply feeling fine. Chris moved Gambler steadily along the stable row and out towards the sprint dirt tracks Bowen Acres had built for their sprinters that ran on dirt surfaces. Gambler was in a touchy mood this evening and he jabbed his head up and down while padding the ground with his front right hoof.
Chris was wondering why he was doing this but it was only because the colt seemed to be a tad bit eager this morning. Gamble was one of the well known biters of the stables like some of the horses Bowen Acres bought from DreamValley Stables. The dilemma was that this stallion was a closer and always came from behind but, he was sneaky. He sometimes showed in the top three of his races but, some of his days were bad and some good. Chris wanted to get this horse to Grade 1 as he made it this far he would not back down without a fight.
On the colt's back, Chris fit perfectly in the saddle. The stallion was 16.2hh and still growing. He would make an interesting stud next year or the year after but, this year he would prove his loyalties on the tracks. This colt was on a stretch and Chris was the jockey to get him there. He already had breeding reserves from other stables which put him in a full booking until the next breeding season. Gambler would have interesting foals that would be for sure.
Gamble on Peace came to a trot onto the track to get the feel of the track again. Chris moved along with him sitting on him as he then lowered his frame onto his back and then swung the whip gently to then have Gamble go into a slow gallop along the first length of the back stretch. Gamble held his head low and close to his chest moving his feet farther apart from each other striding out with each furlong. He then at the half pole took off with incredible speed feeling like he was flying.
"Whoa! Careful there Gambler let's not put too much into it." The jockey said before taking in deep breaths as he then let Gamble take off on his own level of speed. Coming along the turn Gamble gave another gear pounding his hooves gently onto the dirt as they let off the same time as they went down. The Stallion's ears were back as he wanted to go for more. He would not give up his position of the top results. This stallion proved that at the breeders cup dirt sprint when he came in third against other high racers.
The home stretch came to no problem as he then switched gears again to the highest as he took off to the wire with no hesitation. The stallion was getting older but, he was becoming experienced as he aged. As he passed the wire Gamble came to a slow start as he began to prance as an excitement to his finish. He turned his body to the side as he walked forward. Chris was speechless as he had a lot of things on his mind.
Gamble was as steady to loosen up his nerves as he was guided off the track with no problems. Although, some of the stable workers got nipped at by the stallion only because of the mood he was in. Chris had set forth with trying to get Gambler in higher stakes races. The Breeders Cup was one of the big ones next was the cups and then well triple crown even if he didn't run the lengths or surfaces needed.
