New Year Turf Sprint Workout
The new year had arrived and Jazzaway, a son to G1 Jazzman was set to run in the New Year Turf Sprint at GHF. This colt had a great 2 year old season becoming a Grade 4 within months. Lawrence would make sure that this black colt would make it to Grade 1 status before he retired. He still also had his fifth year but, only time would tell. The colt was doing great so far.
Lawrence grabbed the colt and took him on a walk before taking him to the track. Jazzaway's last race was the December Megalesia Stakes he won over at the Wire. It was certainly a great race that had him become a grade 4. Now that he was 3 his races would be more picked out and would be hectic. He was also challenged with his brother Livin' the Jazz but his brother was a bit more experienced so it would be a matter of time before Jazz would become a champion.
After walking out his muscles Lawrence gathered his blanket placing it on his back before placing the saddle on the colt. Jazzaway's coat was always shiny and after being checked by the Vet he was perfectly healthy with no injuries on his record. After doing what he needed to do Mason finally arrived after he looked the colt over after what Lawrence did. "Sorry I'm late helping with the new born foals is a hassle." He said grabbing a hold of the reins as the two humans walked to the track with Jazz following behind.
"Make sure you take him out slowly then at that half pole turn him loose and have him stay away from the rail its still soft so keep him on the outside." Mason told Lawrence as he stopped before the track. He helped the jockey on the back of the black colt and handed Lawrence the reins. "Got it." The jockey said before guiding him out onto the practice track. The colt was holding his head high but, as his stubbornness aided him the colt jogged out prancing as his feet went along.
Jazzaway liked to run his own style his personality sometimes gets him into trouble but, it always came in handy on the track. He trotted with his own speed and when he was urged to break free from the trot Jazzaway bobbed his head turning his body quite a bit until he decided to want to gallop away himself. The colt didn't like to listen to his owners he had always been like that since well his previous owners and birth. When Jazz wanted to go himself he raised his tail as a burst of happiness as the colt sprinted off immediately feeling the breeze on his nose.
Lawrence held his head down and his body backside raised to release most of his weight off the colt as he watched the track ahead from behind the colt's neck. Jazzaway held his stride perfectly he was like a machine but, Lawrence didn't want the colt to overdue himself but this workout was needed. He hadn't had one since October and this one would be a relief workout. The colt turned the last furlong onto the home stretch as he picked up the pace a bit before passing the wire with all of the strength that he had.
Lawrence urged Jazz to a slow stop and of course the colt fought it at first before he agreed to stop a few feet ahead of the finish. The colt was then walked off the track. "Very good time but, he's up against great racers we need him to be ready." He said before they returned the colt to the stables to rest for race day.
